CDMX, CDMX, México a 20 de marzo de 2023.- Rafael Puente Jr. Llegó al club Universidad Nacional como Director Técnico en Noviembre del 2022, con un contrato de seis meses y una opción de extender su estancia en el club con base a sus resultados; el objetivo principal que se trazó en ese momento, era sacar al equipo del bache en que los dejo Andrés Lillini y, evitar así, el pagar la multa correspondiente, debido a que no hay descenso en la Liga MX.

En un principio parecía que todo era viento en popa, pues los universitarios comenzaron  el presente torneo con una vitoria ante los Bravos de Juárez  dos goles a uno, posteriormente volvieron a ganar en casa, ante la escuadra de los esmeraldas de León con un abultado marcador 4 goles a cero, sin embargo con el paso de las Jornadas el proyecto de Rafael Puente Jr. se empezó a desplomar, los malos resultados, el bajo rendimiento del equipo y el mal funcionamiento del mismo término poco a poco con la paciencia de la directiva del Club Universidad Nacional.

El balance del también actor dirigiendo a los universitarios durante 12 jornadas es de 3 victorias, 2 empates y 7 derrotas, diversos medios; luego de la derrota ante Cruz Azul  en la jornada 11, aseguraron que la directiva daría por termina la relación de trabajo con Rafa Puente y su cuerpo técnico, sin embargo habrían sido los mismos jugadores quienes respaldaron el proyecto del entonces dirigente universitario, consiguiendo así mantenerlo en el banquillo durante una semana más.

Sin embargo la derrota de este Domingo ante los Tuzos de Pachuca fue el quiebre de todo, durante el duelo, se pudieron escuchar canticos de la barra universitaria la rebel quienes pedían la destitución de Puente Jr. así como la salida de los jugadores que ya no quisieran estar en el club; luego de haber concluido el duelo, fue el ingeniero Leopoldo Silva el encargado de informar a Rafael Puente la decisión de dar por terminado su ciclo al frente de Pumas junto a todo su cuerpo técnico.

Aunado a esto, el día Rodrigo Celorio de TUDN, informó que Leopoldo Silva y Miguel Mejía Barón presentaron su renuncia a la presidencia y vicepresidencia deportiva respectivamente al rector de la UNAM, quedando ambos a consideración del Dr. Enrique Graue.

Pese a que en redes sociales han sonado diversos nombres, al día de hoy, el Club Universidad, aún no ha decido quien será el encargado de terminar el torneo al frente de Pumas como Director Técnico interino, será en los próximos días en se dé a conocer esta información.
