El juego comenzó muy trabado en la media cancha y poco se pudo ver al ataque de ambos clubes durante los primeros minutos del partido, la primera de peligro la generaron los locales, a los 11 minutos del juego con un disparo desde fuera del área por parte de Gustavo del Prete.
Después de esa jugada el equipo local adquirió confianza y tomaron por más tiempo el balón pero con poca claridad al ataque, tuvieron que pasar 35 minutos para que se abriera el marcador, los auriazules aprovecharon una pelota parada desde el tiro de esquina, un centro perfecto por parte de Alek Álvarez que posteriormente Juan Ignacio “El comandante” Dinenno remataría de cabeza para mandar el balón al fondo de la portería defendida por Camilo Vargas.
Con esta anotación el delantero argentino conseguiría su cuarto gol del torneo y el número 50 vistiendo los colores del Club Universidad Nacional.
Luego de una falta cometida por Higor Meritão afuera del área de los universitarios, el conjunto rojinegro empataría el partido al minuto 42, Brayan Lozano sería el anotador por parte de los visitantes, pasaron los minutos y sobre el tiempo de compensación el delantero brasileño Diogo de Oliveira volvió a poner en ventaja a los felinos, luego de un disparo cruzado de pierna derecha logró vencer al guardameta del conjunto tapatío y con esta anotación los locales se irian al descanso con la ventaja en el marcador.
A los 66 minutos de partido, el equipo de los Pumas tuvo oportunidad de aumentar la ventaja en el marcador con el cobro de una pena máxima, luego de que el arquero Camilo Vargas derribara a Diogo de Oliveira dentro del área, desafortunadamente Juan Dinenno no ejecutó de buena manera y el arquero rojinegro desvió el balón hacia e tiro de esquina.
Para mala fortuna de los dirigidos por Rafael Puente al minuto 74 Meritão se iría expulsado del terreno de juego por doble tarjeta amarilla; ya sobre el final del tiempo reglamentario el conjunto visitante logró rescatar el empate, al minuto 87 Julian Quiñones anotaría el segundo gol para su equipo.
Con este resultado los Pumas llegan a 8 puntos y se mantienen en la quinta posición de la tabla general, la próxima semana los universitarios tendrán una dura prueba, pues viajarán para jugar de visitantes en el Estadio Universitario de Nuevo León.
