La lección que nos dio Antetokounmpo

En las conferencias de prensa a las cuales asistí cuando ejercía como reportera, era muy común que después de un mal resultado los colegas preguntaran a los jugadores y entrenadores si consideraban un fracaso no haber alcanzado el triunfo. Ese cuestionamiento se repetía constantemente en cualquier deporte.

Tras la eliminación de los Milwaukee Bucks, un periodista le preguntó a Giannis Antetokounmpo si veía su temporada 2023 como una derrota, a lo cual el basquetbolista respondió: “Me hiciste la misma pregunta el año pasado. ¿Tú consigues un ascenso cada año en tu trabajo? No, ¿verdad? Entonces, ¿cada año que trabajas es un fracaso? ¿Sí o no? No, cada año trabajas para conseguir algo, para conseguir una meta, un ascenso, cuidar de tu familia”. Sin saberlo, Antetokounmpo nos dio la lección más grande.

En tiempos en los cuales las redes sociales nos inundan y lo ideal es compartir únicamente los logros y la diversión, tener un tropezón suele ser visto como una derrota, pero en realidad todas son estampas de diferentes momentos de nuestra vida. Cada quien está corriendo su propia carrera, jugando su propio partido y así es como debemos reconocer nuestros éxitos sin importar su tamaño.

Antetokounmpo también recordó emocionado la trayectoria profesional de Michael Jordan, quien es considerado uno de los mejores baloncestistas del mundo. “Michael Jordan jugó 15 años y ganó seis campeonatos. ¿Los otros nueve fueron un fracaso? ¿Eso es lo que me estás diciendo? Es una pregunta equivocada.”

Dejemos de usar palabras para juzgar y vender. Entendamos la naturaleza auténtica de los medios de comunicación y pongámonos en el lugar de los otros. Claro que en las crónicas deportivas se pueden describir las equivocaciones durante las competencias, pero no utilicemos solamente “exitoso” o “fallido” para calificar las situaciones porque en medio hay muchas más circunstancias.
