Cuernavaca, Morelos, México a 25 de abril de 2022.- El mediodía de éste Domingo, en el Estadio Nemesio Díez ubicado en el Estado de México, Toluca recibió al Atlas, el campeón del futbol mexicano visitaba a la peor defensa del torneo, un duelo dónde se esperaban goles, ya que en las dos veces que se enfrentaron en ambos torneos del 2021, quedaron cero a cero.
El cuadro de los Diablos Rojos inició con Luis García Palomares en el arco, 4 defensores, Raúl López, Óscar Vanegas, Valber Huerta y Jorge Rodríguez, en el medio campo, Diego Rigonato, Kevin Castañeda, Jordan Sierra y Leo Fernández, y dos delanteros, Ían González y Camilo Sanvezzo, todos ellos dirigidos por Ignacio Ambriz.
Por otra parte, los Rojinegros salieron con Camilo Vargas en la portería, línea de cinco jugadores, Luis Reyes, Emanuel Aguilera, Hugo Nervo, Anderson Santamaría y Javier Abella, en el medio campo, Jairo Torres, Aldo Rocha y Edgar Zaldívar, y arriba, Julio Furch junto con Julian Quiñones, dirigidos por Diego Cocca.
El partido dio comienzo con el pitazo del árbitro Fernando Guerrero. Al minuto 12, un contragolpe de Toluca, Jordan Sierra controló el balón, después del medio campo asistió a Sanvezzo que sacó un disparo de pierna derecha, pero el balón se estrellaba en el poste y se salvaban los Rojinegros.
Con el partido empatado a 1 ambas escuadras cerraron espacios y fue muy disputado el balón, pero cuando parecía que se iban al descanso con un empate, al minuto 43, Vanegas jaló de la playera a Quiñones dentro del área, el árbitro dejó correr la jugada y cuando salió el balón, lo llamaron del VAR, ya con la repetición, un minuto después, Fernando Guerrero decidió marcar penal y amarilla para el defensor de Toluca.
Quiñones se perfiló con pierna derecha, cobró el penal al lado izquierdo del portero, Luis García lo atajó, pero el rebote le cayó al mismo jugador colombiano y con la cabeza metió el gol que le daba ventaja a los dirigidos por Diego Cocca, con esto se íban al descanso.
Para la segunda mitad, Toluca hizo dos cambios, salieron los dos delanteros, Sanvezzo e Ian González, para darle ingreso a Brian Samudio y Alexis Canelo, al 57, llegaba un centro por derecha de Abella que Furch remataba con la cabeza, pero Vanegas cometía una mano y el árbitro marcaba nuevamente penal, y con esto se iba expulsado el central de Toluca por doble tarjeta amarilla, Furch con la pierna derecha fusiló al portero con un tiro al centro del arco para aumentar la ventaja a 3 goles por 1.
Ya con ventaja de dos goles, ambos equipos realizaron cambios al minuto 75, por parte de Atlas, entraba Ortega por Torres, y de los Diablos, ingresaba Isaías Violante por Rodríguez.
A falta de quince minutos, Toluca se iba al frente para tratar de acortar distancias en el marcador, y fue hasta el minuto 89, una jugada por izquierda dónde Rigonato mandó un pase para el joven Violante, y éste mismo ingresó al área para que bombeara el balón a Camilo Vargas y se metiera al fondo de la portería para el segundo gol de los Diablos.
Un minuto antes del final, más lo que agregara el árbitro, Toluca se fue con todo para empatar el partido, al minuto 97 un tiro de esquina a favor del Atlas, Quiñones se levantaba por los aires para rematar el balón y marcar el 4 por 2 definitivo.
Toluca ha perdido 8 de sus 16 partidos dirigidos por Ignacio Ambriz, siendo la peor defensiva del torneo.
Primera vez en torneos cortos que Atlas le hace 4 goles a Toluca en su Estadio.
